About

Lauren Holtkamp-Sterling

(supervised by S. Anni Skurja-Brown, LMFT-S)

she/her

Hi, I'm Lauren, and I'm so glad you're here! I am a pre-licensed Marriage and Family Therapist providing systemic, relational therapy to individuals and couples navigating stress, identity, and life transitions.

I work with high-performing individuals and couples in high-stress, evaluative roles - people who are accustomed to carrying responsibility, making decisions under pressure, and staying composed when the stakes are high.

Before entering the field of therapy, I spent 16 years working in fast-paced, highly evaluative environments within global sports and media. As a former NBA and WNBA referee, I developed a deep understanding of what it means to perform under scrutiny, regulate emotion in real time, and function as part of a tightly connected team. These experiences continue to shape how I work with clients who are navigating pressure, visibility, and complex relational dynamics.

I understand what it’s like to be evaluated in real time, and how that pressure shapes both performance and relationships.

Many of my clients function well on the outside but feel depleted, reactive, or disconnected on the inside. Individuals and couples may come to therapy feeling caught in cycles shaped by chronic stress, performance demands, or unequal emotional labor.

Clients may be leaders, physicians, attorneys, first responders, educators, clergy, former athletes, or caregivers who are deeply capable and deeply tired. Others are navigating identity shifts after leaving an identity-defining role or season of life and are trying to make sense of who they are - individually and relationally - beyond performance.

My work is especially supportive for individuals and couples who are used to pushing through stress, minimizing their own needs, or “holding it together” for everyone else. Together, we slow things down enough to notice patterns, build emotional agility, and develop steadier ways of responding, both internally and in relationships.

I bring a structured, reflective approach to therapy that blends practical tools with depth. Clients often appreciate my use of systems thinking, metaphor, and embodied awareness, especially if traditional talk therapy has felt too unstructured or abstract. Therapy with me is collaborative, grounded, and focused on helping individuals and couples move through stress without losing themselves, or each other, in the process.
